Mad King Kovid

a political art film by

Doug FitchMaggie Steig, Richard Freeman

Cross President Trump with Mad King George III in 2020 and what do you get? Mad King Kovid, a tyrannical coronavirus denier, rampaging “any-street” USA in the last days before the election. With his golf club scepter, his money-lined cape and his Coronavirus crown, he confronts a Halloween figure—a young woman dressed up as RBG. She presents him with pumpkins carved with the words Justice, Science and Democracy. The mad king tries to destroy them—just as Trump is trying to destroy America’s founding principles. In the end, the Democracy pumpkin is preserved! It ends with a quote from Obama’s eulogy for John Lewis “Our Democracy depends on our defending it.”

The project was initiated by Harvard professor Richard Freeman, of the National Bureau of Economic Research.

Designed and directed by visual artist Doug Fitch, who created several projects for the New York Philharmonic: le Grand Macabre, The Cunning Little Vixen, Dancers Dream and Gloria, A Pig Tale at the Metropolitan Museum. He has designed and directed productions for major opera houses world-wide and as exhibited art works, (some edible)

Co-directed by event producer, Maggie Steig, a performer, leadership coach and event designer. She has performed with Improv Boston and Guilty Children, trained Fortune 100 leaders and designed and produced large scale corporate events such as YPO.
